NORVASC 5 mg Capsules (30s) Active Ingredient: Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to 5 mg Amlodipine Therapeutic Class: Calcium Channel Blocker (Dihydropyridine) Dosage Form: Oral capsuleIndications:NORVASC is indicated for the treatment of: Hypertension (high blood pressure) – helps lower blood pressure to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks Chronic stable angina – to reduce chest pain frequency and improve exercise tolerance Vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s angina) Mechanism of Action:Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells, leading to peripheral arterial vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. In angina, it reduces oxygen demand and improves blood flow to the heart.Dosage and Administration: Adults: Initial dose is typically 5 mg once daily May be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily depending on the clinical response Can be taken with or without food Use caution in elderly or patients with hepatic impairment Warnings and Precautions: Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment, heart failure, or aortic stenosis Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical supervision Monitor for signs of peripheral edema, particularly at higher doses Side Effects:Common: peripheral edema, dizziness, headache, fatigue, flushing Less common: palpitations, abdominal pain, nausea, rash, hypotensionStorage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place protected from light.
